Objectives:

1 To provide participants with a general knowledge of their duties, responsibilities and liabilities  as employee, partner or director of an engineering practice or business organisation under the various relevant statutes, contract and common law obligations;

 

2. To enable participants to acquire and use their knowledge of their statutory, common law & contractual duties & obligations in order to support their roles as good and responsible employee, partner or director of an engineering practice or business organisation; and

 

3. To share some suggestions on avoidance of possible pitfalls.

 

Course Outline:

1. A short introduction on the laws of Singapore;

 

2. The differences between statutory, common law & contractual duties;

 

3. The statutory, common law & contractual duties and responsibilities of a PE/engineer as an employee;

 

4. An overview of the laws on sole proprietorship, partnership, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) and the related or relevant provisions under the PE Act affecting professional engineers;

 

5. The role, power, duties and responsibilities of a PE/Engineer as a sole proprietor in an engineering practice, partner in an engineering partnership or LLP;

 

6. An overview of company laws and the related or relevant provisions under the PE Act affecting professional engineers; and

 

7. The role, power, duties and responsibilities of a PE/Engineer as a board director/executive director in an engineering corporation.

 

Trainer’s CV:

Mr.Lee Kwok Weng, B.Eng. (Mech.)(S'pore), M.Sc.(Ind.Eng)(NUS), DipBA(NUS), GradDip Mktg.(MIS), LLB(Hons)(Bucks), LLM(Lond), Barrister-at-Law, Advocate & Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore (Retired), Accredited Arbitrator & Mediator, MMIS, FIES, Honorary Legal Advisor, IES & SISO, a senior lawyer, was in continuous private legal practice for almost 29 years running his own law firm before his retirement from legal practice.

 

Mr. Lee is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and a much sought after speaker. He conducts teaching & training for various corporations, organizations and tertiary institutions as well as provide in-house courses for many businesses. Mr. Lee has been for many years an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration, National University of Singapore, teaching in the MBA programme, He was also an Adjunct Lecturer for many years at the Nanyang Technological University and BCA Academy. He still conducts courses at IES Academy.

 

He specialises in Business Contracts, Negligence, Information Technology and Engineering & Building Laws. He is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and is well-versed in the technical field, marketing and management practice too.

 

Mr. Lee brings with him considerable industrial project and business development management experience, having worked more than 12 years inter alia as a project engineer with the Singapore Government and senior project manager in a leading multi-national energy, engineering and construction corporation.
